Canton, OH (August 3, 2020) – The Dismantling Racism Coalition of Stark County is proud to announce the launch of the Unity Challenge, a 15-day commitment that helps us explore our unconscious attitudes about race, power, privilege and leadership.
You can help our community reduce barriers and create transformational change, while going on your own personal journey of growth when you join in before August 7 on the challenge, available at dismantlingracismstarkcounty.org/unitychallenge. Registering by August 7 will assure participation in the 15-day journey with the community at large.
Dedicate 15 minutes a day and learn how to encompass alternative voices through activities designed to dismantle racism. The Unity Challenge to Dismantle Racism is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. Participants explore racial equity and social injustice through activities designed to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination. Activities educate participants how racial and social injustice impact our community through our connections with one another and identify ways racism and other forms of discrimination can be dismantled.
Dismantling Racism Coalition of Stark County is a partnership between Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health, Coming Together Stark County, The Greater Stark County Urban League, Kent State University at Stark, Stark County Collaborative on Race Relations, Stark County Educational Service Center, Stark County Health Department, Stark County Mental Health and Addiction Recovery, Stark Education Partnership, YWCA Canton and United Way of Greater Stark County.
The three-week program is a virtual platform in which participants receive a daily email which links to an article, podcast, video or graphic, and delves into how systemic racism is embedded in education, housing, public health, racial identity, privilege, and more. The nonpartisan curriculum is appropriate for teens and adults that are interested in learning more about race. The original challenge was developed by Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. and Debby Irving and has been adapted by many organizations across the country.
