(Stark and Carroll Counties, OH) July 13, 2021 – United Way of Greater Stark County’sWomen United is currently accepting nominations for the fifth annual Family-Friendly Workplace Awards at uwstark.org/family-friendly . The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, August 27.

“Adopting family-friendly policies has proven to be a smart investment that improves productivity, increases job retention, and promotes gender diversity and balance,” explains United Way of Greater Stark County’s President & CEO Maria Heege. “These policies cultivate supportive environments and contribute to the success of the company. We celebrate our community’s continual commitment to improving work-life balance and look forward to seeing more companies adopt programs that will enhance their employee and employee’s family’s lives.”

Women United will recognize three Stark and/or Carroll County workplaces for creating Family-Friendly Workplaces and sustaining these policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Award recipients will be honored during a luncheon on October 19 at Kent State University at Stark Conference Center.

The awards recognize local workplaces that go beyond what is legally required to help employees balance work and life. Family-friendly policies result in higher customer satisfaction, increased cost savings and profits, higher return on investment and reduces absenteeism. Examples of family-friendly policies include: flextime, child care and elder care, telecommuting, job sharing, tuition for employees, family medical leave, paid parental leave for birth or adoption of children, employee and family health benefits, tuition for employees, flexible emergency leave with pay, employee assistance programs, family-oriented events, and scholarships for employees’ children.

“For many years, Women United has tried to create opportunities for supporting the emotional and intellectual growth of women and young children, with a focus on moving families out of poverty,” says Amy Mast, Women United Chair. “Work and family responsibilities are inextricably linked for many employees. These policies are smart, equitable solutions that make a positive difference in the community.”

Previous award recipients include Synchrony Financial, Buckeye, Massillon Museum, MAC Trailer, CommQuest Services, Inc., The Karcher Group, TimkenSteel, Employers Health, Schauer Group, Aultman Health Foundation and Domestic Violence Project, Inc.
