Join in on a Scavenger Hunt with United Way’s Young Leaders Society!

(Stark County, Ohio) May 12, 2021 – United Way of Greater Stark County’s Young Leaders Society (YLS) is hosting a scavenger hunt to continue to support local students with their Textbook Scholarship.

“Double Dash: Race to the Finish!” will take place on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 10A-1P. Team leaders should gather their teammates (4-6 people) and sign up to secure their spot for a Scavenger Hunt. Register individually or together with a Team Name. Finish as many challenges as you can at your own pace as you race to be the 2021 Double Dash Champions!

The game will take place on GooseChase so each teammate can contribute through the app on their phone. Scavenger Hunt missions will range from photo or video challenges, location specific tasks, or riddles. Teams will receive the points as missions are completed and there will be additional booster and penalty options to help advance teams on the leaderboard. While playing, everyone will be able to see challenge submissions on the activity feed and their ranking in real time.

This scavenger hunt is a great way to spend time with friends or family while supporting students in our community. The cost is $20 a person with between 4 to 6 on a team. Space is limited. Teams can register online here.

“We wanted to offer a fun and unique way to support the scholarship fund” said Kathryn Cusma, Chair of the event planning committee. “This event offers people a chance to gather in small groups and explore Stark County with some friendly competition.”

Proceeds from the scavenger hunt will go towards the YLS textbook scholarship fund. “We are so grateful for the support our community has shown the last few years with our scholarship” said Laura Prengaman, Assistant Director of Campaign at United Way of Greater Stark County. “Because of past funds raised through our annual Canton Prom fundraiser, we were able to award one local student this year with the scholarship. Our hope is that the scavenger hunt will secure next year’s funding so we can continue this initiative.”

The textbook scholarship helps to offset the cost of books for local students as they pursue their dreams of college. As young leaders, the members of YLS know that their personal and professional success would not have been possible without support from mentors, teachers and advocates who helped them along the way. This initiative allows them to pay it forward for the next generation.

Thank you to the event sponsors, without whom this fundraiser wouldn’t be possible: Basil Asian Bistro, Deli Ohio, Jackson Ridge Rehabilitation and Care, The Karcher Group, Lucca, Milestone Games, Rentwear Inc., and Two Teachers and a Power Washer, LLC.

YLS has been able to reward the scholarship to nine students since 2018. Learn more about this year’s recipient here.
