“See What’s Possible” with United Way’s 2020 Fundraising Campaign

Canton, Oh (Sept. 10, 2020) — United Way of Greater Stark County launched its annual fundraising campaign today through a virtual kick-off event.

“This has been a difficult year for so many in our community, but we’re entering this campaign with renewed hope and great enthusiasm,” said Maria Heege, United Way of Greater Stark County President and CEO. “In times of hardship, our community rises to the occasion and emerges stronger. When we live UNITED, we see what’s possible.”

United Way of Greater Stark County Board Chair Judge Michael Howard joined Heege at the live event, along with Chris Goff, 2020 Campaign Chair and Employers Health CEO and General Counsel.

United Way staff members shared several stories from community members who received help through the organization’s COVID-19 Impact Fund, which provides one-time assistance with rent and mortgage payments to those who have lost their jobs or have reduced hours as a result of the pandemic.

The kick-off event has a goal to raise $5,000 by 10AM tomorrow, Sept. 10. Text STARK to 50503 to contribute to the Impact Fund and help reach the goal.

Through its annual fundraising campaign, the nonprofit seeks to raise $5.1 million by Dec. 10 to fund its direct services and local network of nonprofit community partners in Stark and Carroll Counties.

Goff said this year’s goal, which is a decrease from last year, reflects the unique challenges facing the community, including the organization’s donors.

“Last year, we set an aggressive fundraising goal, and we’re so grateful our community helped us to achieve and exceed that amount,” said Goff. “This year, we’re facing a new challenge on a global scale. While the needs in our community are increasing, we recognize that businesses and individuals are also struggling to cope with tremendous losses and drastic change. This year’s goal reflects that. We’re asking our supporters to stay the course with their contributions, so we can continue to provide relief for those in need and help to build a brighter future.”
