(Canton, OH) September 25, 2018 – Three companies will be honored October 10 at the Family-Friendly Workplace Awards Breakfast. Employers Health, Schauer Group and TimkenSteel are leading the way in Stark County for their best practices of implementing policies that make it possible for employees to more easily balance family and work.

Employers Health’s corporate culture reinforces the importance a family-friendly workplace provided by: observing holidays in a progressive manner by closing at noon on the day before such holiday to allow its employees to travel and or prepare for such holidays, and closing its offices on or before December 24 and re-opening on or after January 2;  employees annually receiving 20-30 vacation days, 5 sick days and, if a donation (specified minimum amount) is made to United Way, a United Way day; providing exempt employees the privilege of working from home two days every calendar month; implementing childbirth and adoption policies: in addition to any accumulated PTO, all female employees are entitled to up six weeks of paid maternity leave; all male employees are entitled to up to three weeks of paid paternity leave; and all employees are entitled to up to six weeks of paid time off for adoption of a child.

Schauer Group, Inc. is a family owned and operated business. Family-friendly practices help employees feel a sense of purpose, feel supported and to be nurtured to excel. They offer the following programs that empower their team members: flextime/flexible working schedule; telecommuting/work from home; part-time career opportunities; paid maternity/paternity leave; employer-sponsored healthcare: for individual, family and/or dependents; and education reimbursement.

TimkenSteel family-friendly practices offer competitive benefits to its employees and their family members: paid parental leave; competitive time-off policies; Employee Resource Groups; scholarship program (seven college scholarships to children of employees); telecommuting and flexible work schedules; pre-tax spending accounts with employer contribution: Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs); company-sponsored family events; wellness platform; Employee Assistance Plan; extended medical services for kids away from home; annual financial incentive to see their primary care physician regularly; and an education reimbursement policy.

“Studies show that family-friendly workplace practices attract and retain talent, which leads to economic growth,” says UWGSC’s Vice President of Resource Development, Angela Perisic. “These programs empower team members, leading to increased engagement, job satisfaction, personal growth and professional development – which, in turn, helps promote a healthy work-life balance.”
