United Way of Greater Stark County Selected as 2026 Global Youth Service Day Grant Recipient

(Stark County, OH) April 20, 2026 – United Way of Greater Stark County (UWGSC) has been selected as a 2026 Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) grant recipient by ServeOhio, the Governor appointed commission on service and volunteerism.

The grant will support United Way’s Summer Bridge outreach project, an initiative focused on helping young learners maintain academic progress and build confidence during the summer months. With this funding, UWGSC will assemble 415 summer learning kits for kindergarten students at its Strong Neighborhoods, Strong Families partner school sites.

Each kit is designed to keep students engaged, curious, and prepared for success as they transition into first grade. The resources provided aim to combat summer learning loss, often referred to as the “summer slide,” which can disproportionately impact early learners.

Global Youth Service Day, taking place April 24 through 26, is the largest service event in the world dedicated to recognizing and mobilizing the contributions of young people. This year, ServeOhio is supporting 43 projects across 28 cities, engaging nearly 2,000 youth volunteers in meaningful service efforts that strengthen communities and promote long term impact.

ServeOhio has awarded more than $39,000 in grants to support these initiatives, each designed to create or enhance community assets while incorporating educational components that drive sustainable change.
“We’re grateful to ServeOhio for investing in youth service and educational equity,” said representatives from United Way of Greater Stark County. “This support allows us to expand our reach and ensure more children have the tools they need to stay on track and succeed.”

Through partnerships with local schools and community organizations, United Way continues to advance its mission of improving education, strengthening families, and creating lasting opportunities for children across Stark County.
