Meet Skye, our future nail designer.

Skye’s creativity and leadership started at a young age.
Her leadership comes through for her younger siblings and from her peers at school. “She loves helping kids when they are struggling,” said her stepmom, Kaylie. Her creative side shows when she wears anything Cheetah print, and her love of drawing.
During Skye’s career experience, she showed her creative side as she worked on her stepmother’s nails and learned from Alyssa at Yara Capelli in Canton. “I want to be a nail designer because my stepmom does this, and my mom has pretty nails, and I enjoy the different designs,” exclaims Skye.
When Skye is not in school, she likes to spend time with her friends, and she likes to try different sports. Basketball just ended for her, so her next adventure is soon to be discovered. She also likes to spend her spare time being creative and drawing. “She always knew she wanted to do something creative when she grew up,” said her stepmom. “The nail designing is because I do it, and I am thrilled to be a good influence on her.”
One of her favorite movies is Maid, probably because it is an inspiring story of hope, and Skye is an inspiration and positive influence on her friends. “She always tries to turn their negative situation into a positive one,” her stepmom said.
These career experiences are so important. They help kids from underrepresented backgrounds to learn about professions in creative fields as well as STEM. “By giving kids like Skye a glimpse into their dream careers, we’re showing them that their passions are valid, and their futures are full of possibility,” said Angela Perisic, CEO, United Way of Greater Stark County.
Skye will definitely be a true leader in whatever career she chooses. “Skye is a very intelligent young lady, and she is going to go far with nail designing or whatever she chooses to do,” says Skye’s father, Corey.
