Too many children are affected by Canton’s high poverty rate. In an effort to support them and encourage their love of reading and learning, Young Leaders Society and its members will assemble Literacy Kits for middle schoolers in Southeast Canton. The kits will be distributed to agencies serving these children through Hartford Middle School, Lighthouse Ministries, Tiqvah Hands of Hope, and Urban League of Stark County. Each kit will contain a book, coordinating activities, journal, pen, snack, and an encouraging note from the volunteer all in a drawstring bag. Our hope with this project is to not only provide books to children who might not have access to many at home but also to show encouragement and support from their community.
We are extremely grateful to C.A.S.T. (Caring and Serving Together) for their financial support to make this project happen.
