(Canton, OH) August 6, 2019 – United Way of Greater Stark County’s Women United third-annual Family-Friendly Workplace Awards will recognize awardees on Thursday, October 10, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The luncheon will take place in the Kent State University at Stark Conference Center.

Registration for the event is available at www.uwstark.org/family-friendly-initiative

In addition to celebrating this year’s award recipients, the event will also feature keynote speaker Meghan Cummings, Executive Director of the Women’s Fund of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation.  She brings a broad perspective of leadership and fundraising through her experience with non-profit organizations, a corporate charity and a community foundation.  Meghan is passionate about addressing poverty and equity issues by igniting public will and inspiring individuals, companies and foundations to collaborate in new ways.  She was named to the to the 2014 class of the Cincinnati Business Courier’s Forty under 40.  Meghan currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Beyond Civility, a non-profit dedicated to helping citizens and civic leaders explore the barriers and bridges to effective dialogue.  She earned her bachelor’s degrees in political science and journalism from Miami University and a Master of Business Administration from Xavier University.

“Especially in this tight labor market, companies are struggling with the same pain points: attraction, retention and engagement,” says Cummings.  “But, could your company policies be having an unintended negative effect on your efforts to retain your workforce?  At the October 10 event, I will be presenting top-line concrete actions from our Employer Toolkit that can help turn your vicious cycle of turnover into a virtuous one.”

Nominations are currently being accepted for Stark County workplaces that have an overall approach to helping employees balance their work and family responsibilities. Examples of family-friendly policies include: flextime, child care and elder care, telecommuting, job sharing, tuition for employees, family medical leave, paid parental leave for birth or adoption of children, employee and family health benefits, flexible emergency leave with pay, employee assistance programs, family-oriented events, and scholarships for employees’ children.
