National Volunteer Week to be celebrated April 15-22

(Canton, OH) March 13, 2018 – Once again, United Way of Greater Stark County (UWGSC) is continuing its annual partnership with Gatehouse Media to celebrate National Volunteer Week with a special publication in The Canton Repository; recognizing our friends, neighbors, colleagues and family members who generously contribute their time and talent to help our community thrive. National Volunteer Week is the time to thank some of our community’s most valuable assets. It was launched over 40 years ago when President Nixon signed an executive order to establish the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. UWGSC is grateful for the many altruistic individuals who support the organization’s work through volunteerism. Their contributions are as unique and varied as the individual volunteers themselves – from reading stories to preschoolers to serving on the Board of Directors.

“As a non-profit organization, we are especially aware of how vital volunteers are to our work, as well as to the work of other organizations in our community,” says UWGSC President and CEO Maria Heege. “By recognizing and celebrating what our fellow residents do for the Greater Stark County, we hope to inspire others to serve. We welcome participation from individuals, groups and families.”

“The Canton Repository is proud to partner with the United Way of Greater Stark County to recognize all of the hard-working volunteers who give of themselves to help move our community forward,” says The Repository’s Marketing Manager, Audra Boone. Volunteers deserving recognition can be nominated at http://www.starkcountyvolunteer.com by March 22nd. Nominations will be reviewed by a committee comprised of editorial staff and community members. Winners will be featured in a special newspaper insert on April 16th.

Finding volunteer opportunities is easy with UWGSC’s Volunteer Resource Center (VRC) webpage, which has recently transitioned to a new online platform at www.uwstark.org/volunteer. “The new platform provides a more streamlined experience for organizations posting volunteer opportunities, as well as for individuals seeking them out.” Explains UWGSC Marketing and Volunteer Engagement Coordinator Daniel Jenkins. “The VRC website brings together people and community needs. We have listings to fit every type of passion and capability.” Contact Daniel at [email protected] or (330) 491-9953 for more information on volunteering or for assistance navigating the VRC.
