Our commitment during this time has not wavered\, and as times have changed and needs have become even more complex\, we have evolved in how we address community needs. One constant remains in how we serve our community – and that is you. Volunteers are the backbone of our work and we wouldn’t be here today without you. It’s only fitting that we kick off our Centennial Celebration with a beloved family-friendly event that embodies the United Way spirit of what we can accomplish when we work together. \nStone Soup\, based on the children’s story\, is a favorite volunteer activity for so many! This great family-friendly event brings together volunteers of all ages to assemble meals for those in need in our community. Join us\, much like the villagers in the story\, to come together to maximize impact in providing hot meals to our community and see how as a whole\, we can make incredible things happen. \n\nWe are looking for 100 volunteers to donate food ingredients and help us assemble meals for those in need in our community.\nVolunteers will be assigned to bring ingredients (ranging from $5-$7 per person) needed to complete larger recipes\, assigned about 1 week before the event.\nWe will then work in small groups to assemble casseroles\, snack packs\, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.\nAll of the food will be donated to area shelters\, youth groups or community centers to provide meals to those individuals\, children\, and families who need it most.\nThis is a family-friendly event for children aged 4 and up.\nTwo locations will be available on the day of the event to ensure safe distancing protocols. You may specify your preferred location at registration\, but the assigned location is not guaranteed and is based on first-come\, first-serve. If you would like to be placed at a location with others\, please plan on signing up as one group to ensure you remain together.\nPlease note: all participants\, regardless of vaccination status\, including children will be required to wear a mask\, and practice safe distancing protocols to ensure a safe event for all.

The kits will be collected and distributed to the following agencies: Stark County Metropolitan Housing\, Massillon AHEAD\, Community Legal Aid\, Urban League of Stark County. You may put together one kit or many. Each and every one will make a difference.\n\n\nChecklist to assemble kit:\n\nGallon Size Ziploc Bag\n2 adult face masks\n4 child size face masks\n3 travel sized or one small hand sanitizer\n(Recommended brands: Purell\, Germ-x Gel or Suave Hand Sanitizing spray)\n1 small bottle liquid hand soap\n1 container Lysol or Clorox wipes\n\nAssemble the items in the gallon bag (If the wipes do not fit\, you may keep them separate). Drop them off at the designated place during the noted time frame.

Presented by Courtney Johnson-Benson\, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions at The University of Akron\, this seminar will cover a variety of college planning topics\, as well as a Q&A session at the end of the event. This\, in turn\, can lead to learning struggles throughout school and leads to us facing a statewide workforce crisis. This is why preparing children for kindergarten success is one of United Way’s goal areas. Reading may seem like a simple activity\, but by age 3 children from low-income families typically have HALF the vocabulary of their peers. \nHelp us to create 120 literacy kits to give to children in Stark County that include a book and activities to help them foster a love of learning and literacy from an early age so we can give all kids a chance for success in school. \nWe are looking for 50 volunteers to help us assemble these kits\, so sign up today! \n\nThis event funded by Foresters Financial Inc.

DESCRIPTION:Young Leaders Society and C.A.M.P. Stone Soup   |   Saturday\, October 12   |   9am – 11am   |   ONE Center for Leadership\, 901 Tuscarawas Street E\, Canton\, Ohio\, 44707 \nStone Soup\, based on the children’s story\, is a favorite volunteer activity for so many! \nFor this event\, we are partnering with the students at C.A.M.P. as a mentoring opportunity to gather motivated high school students and young professionals to assemble meals for those in need in our community. Join us\, much like the villagers in the story\, to come together to maximize impact in providing hot meals to our community. \nVolunteers will be assigned to bring ingredients (ranging in cost from $5-$7 per person) needed to complete larger recipes. We will then work in small groups to assemble a variety of soups. All of the food will be donated to area shelters\, youth groups or community centers to provide meals to individuals\, children and families. \nSpace is limited\, so register early as we have maxed out capacity on ALL of our past events. \nIf you are looking for a family-friendly volunteer event\, we will be hosting one in November. DESCRIPTION:Winners of the family-friendly workplace awards will be honored at the third annual award event on Thursday\, October 10\, at Kent State University at Stark Conference Center. \nEvent begins with check-in and buffet at 11 AM\, with the program starting at 11:30 AM. \nAwards presentations and a keynote speech will by Meghan Cummings\, executive director of the Women’s Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. \nHer presentation will focus on Women’s Fund work development of an Employer Toolkit. This toolkit provides tangible\, actionable solutions for serious problems faced by employers and their hourly wages. The Toolkit is designed to help employers increase retention and motivation of hourly wage employees. All registered attendees will receive a copy of the Employer Toolkit. \nEvent registration closed October 7.
