It’s an exciting – and at times challenging – process. But with the right help\, we can make it a little easier. \nUnited Way of Greater Stark County’s Young Leaders Society is hosting a virtual College Planning Seminar for high school seniors and their families. Presented by Courtney Johnson-Benson\, Senior Assistant Director of Admissions at The University of Akron\, this seminar will cover a variety of college planning topics\, as well as a Q&A session at the end of the event. We’ll provide information on: \n\nMajors and educational programs\nCost and financial assistance\nType of schools and degrees offered\nAdmission policies\nCollege affiliation and accreditation\nCampus activities\nSupport services\n\nThere is limited space\, but a recording will be shared following the event in case you weren’t able to register in time. DESCRIPTION:Young Leaders Society and C.A.M.P. Stone Soup   |   Saturday\, October 12   |   9am – 11am   |   ONE Center for Leadership\, 901 Tuscarawas Street E\, Canton\, Ohio\, 44707 \nStone Soup\, based on the children’s story\, is a favorite volunteer activity for so many! \nFor this event\, we are partnering with the students at C.A.M.P. as a mentoring opportunity to gather motivated high school students and young professionals to assemble meals for those in need in our community. Join us\, much like the villagers in the story\, to come together to maximize impact in providing hot meals to our community. \nVolunteers will be assigned to bring ingredients (ranging in cost from $5-$7 per person) needed to complete larger recipes. We will then work in small groups to assemble a variety of soups. All of the food will be donated to area shelters\, youth groups or community centers to provide meals to individuals\, children and families. \nSpace is limited\, so register early as we have maxed out capacity on ALL of our past events. \nIf you are looking for a family-friendly volunteer event\, we will be hosting one in November. DESCRIPTION:Mark it on your calendar!  \nYoung Leaders Society (YLS) will be at Martindale Park on Saturday\, June 29th from 4-6pm for some good food (George’s Sliders and Chips!)\, outdoor fun and mingling – all while doing some good for our community.  \nWe are collecting laundry detergent for our CARE Teams in Stark County schools.  \nAll you need to do is register ahead of time so we know how many people are coming (there is limited space!) then bring a container of laundry detergent per person.  \nWe will be providing food and games at Martindale Park’s Shelter #2 and kids are welcome!!  \nIn case you didn’t know… a CARE Team is made up of teachers\, administrators and staff from multiple community agencies (law enforcement\, mental health\, alcohol and drugs\, and other social service agencies) working together in a school-based environment to address challenges facing the at-risk student population and their families. We recently helped some of the CARE Team’s acquire washers and dryers to place at the school\, to help kids that don’t have access at home.  \nSomething so simple can make a huge difference in their ability to focus and succeed in school.
