On March 2nd\, in celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday\, United Way volunteers will read two classic Dr. Seuss stories\, to help build a nation of readers. By reading to children we help send a clear message that reading is fun and important as well as work towards our goal of 100% Kindergarten readiness. \nEnjoy photo opportunities with Dr. Seuss characters and catch one or both of our public readings at 10:15 AM and 10:45 AM. \nReadings are open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:*Event registration is now closed* \nWednesday\, December 11th – 4 PM – 5:30 PM \nLocation: United Way of Greater Stark County Office \nIn Ohio\, almost 40% of kids entering kindergarten are not on track at the beginning of the school year in language and literacy. This\, in turn\, can lead to learning struggles throughout school and leads to us facing a statewide workforce crisis. This is why preparing children for kindergarten success is one of United Way’s goal areas. Reading may seem like a simple activity\, but by age 3 children from low-income families typically have HALF the vocabulary of their peers. \nHelp us to create 120 literacy kits to give to children in Stark County that include a book and activities to help them foster a love of learning and literacy from an early age so we can give all kids a chance for success in school. \nWe are looking for 50 volunteers to help us assemble these kits\, so sign up today! \n\nThis event funded by Foresters Financial Inc.

DESCRIPTION:The Purse Project continues! We are hoping to assemble about 400 more purse kits on June 21 to be distributed to women and younger girls in need throughout Stark County. \nThere are several organizations helping middle school and high school aged girls that can use some extra love and support\, so we are going to turn the smaller purses that were collected into purse kits for them! \nWe have limited space for volunteers\, so please register in advance for this event. \nWe still need personal care items in order to assemble more purse kits.
