(Stark County, OH) April 2, 2018 – United Way’s Young Leaders Society recently hosted the Canton Prom at The Historic Onesto in downtown Canton. This year’s Canton Prom was a sell out several weeks prior to the event. 325 tickets were sold for this fundraiser, which raised $21,000 to benefit a book scholarship fund for local students. The evening featured a snack bar, basket raffles and a DJ. Prom Court nominees where challenged with raising funds for the project and competing for the title of Royal Couple. This year’s winners were Keri Sullivan & Anthony Chirumbolo. Other contestants were Ashley Starr & Joe Monaco, Cassie Ausperk & Tony Ly, Jared Sparks & David “Buddy” Lee and Michelle & Mark Kemp. Each couple leveraged unique methods to raise money for the project, including a wine tasting, online auction, cabaret event and restaurant fundraisers.
“Young Leaders Society is humbled by the support of local businesses, individuals and of course, the generous couples on our Prom Court,” says Carrie Clemens, United Way of Greater Stark County staff member and YLS liaison. “The proceeds from this year’s event, honestly, far-surpassed our expectations and we could not have done that without these five couples rallying around our cause to help garner support for our new scholarship fund.”
United Way of Greater Stark County extends special thanks to Presenting Sponsor Q92 and the numerous local businesses who generously supported the event through participation and financial contributions. Without their involvement, the event would not be possible.
“This group of young professionals is doing amazing things to help us reach our BOLD GOALS in Education,” says Maria Heege, United Way of Greater Stark County President & CEO. “It’s fun to see the creative ways the couples raise money, and their friendly competition benefits local students.”
