Every other month we feature a YLS member to learn more about their passions and how they are making a difference in Stark County.
Joel Daniel Harris
What organization do you work for and what is your role? Founder and Executive Dreamer of TomTod Ideas and Co-Founder and Father of the Harris Household.
What did you want to be when you grew up? A Social Studies Teacher
What made you join YLS? A combination of respect for the people involved, passion for serving in the community and excitement about the ideas being discussed. As I've learned more about what United Way does in the last couple years, we've become convinced that it's the sort of vital community organization Joy and I want to support.
What YLS committees have you joined? Co-chair of SOUP
What YLS event are you most excited for and why? SOUP! Soup to me is like Kickstarter meets Shark Tank meets a block party...I love the concept of a local, grassroots gathering centered on launching bold, even slightly absurd ideas for the good of the community. Not only will SOUP empower great ideas through community-powered grants, it will also be a place where collaborations and new ventures will be able to spring up, through sidebar conversations and the shared ethos of the participants. Pardon the pun, but that seems like a brilliant recipe.
What's your favorite local place to eat/visit/hang out in Stark County? Anywhere downtown Canton, but especially Deli Ohio for food, Malone University for smarts, and Lighthouse Ministries for community impact.
What was the first concert you ever attended? I have no idea. Favorite concert, though, would be Arcade Fire with LCD Soundsystem opening in Columbus. Anathallo at Musica would be a close second.
What's something unique about you that most people don't know? I was an expert foosball player in college.
What organization do you work for and what's your role? Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health; Assistant Fund Development and Event Planner
What did you want to be when you grow up? A lawyer
What made you join YLS? I wanted to make a difference in the community I live in and network with other young professionals.
What YLS committee(s) have you joined? YLS Steering Committee & Play 60
What YLS event are you most excited for and why? I am most excited for the SOUP events because it will allow YLS to support wonderful projects within the community.
What's your favorite local place to eat/visit/hang out in Stark County? DeMario's Pizza has some of the best thin crust pizza, chicken and jojos in Stark County.
What was the first concert you ever attended? Jon B.
What's something unique about you that most people don't know? I love tattoos and currently have four of them (will be getting my fifth one very soon!).
