For the Love of Learning Event raises $12,000 for student scholarships
On Oct. 1, United Way supporters and the community came together to celebrate education and to raise nearly $12,000 for Women's Leadership Council scholarships. This year, six deserving women received scholarships totaling more than $8,000. The silent auction featured beautifully handcrafted pieces created by local artists. The highlight of the evening was Tim Decker, performance speed painter. He painted three giant portraits of Ray Charles, Albert Einstein and the Statue of Liberty, which were auctioned off to the highest bidders. A surprise addition to the auction was a LeBron James portrait which was sold to Kevin Smith of PPI Graphics. Thanks to our sponsors Aultman Hospital, Aultman College, Diebold, Inc. and the Sirak Financial Companies for their generous support. A special thanks to the WLC planning committee chaired by Linda Smith, live auctioneer Rodney Dimmerling, emcee Chryssa Hartnet, and thank you to everyone who donated items to the silent auction, wine cork pull, and those who bid on the items to help raise monies for this worthwhile cause.
